“I Don’t Understand”
Don’t Pretend to Understand (이해하는 척하지말자.)
Many English learners say “OK” even when they don’t understand. If you don’t understand directions, instructions, suggestions, or questions, use one of these phrases:
영어 학습자들의 대부분이 이해가 않됐을 때도 “OK” 라고 대답합니다. 만약 방향, 지시, 제안 또는 질문들을 이해하지못 할 경우에는 아래문장 중하나를사용하세요.

Don’t Assume they Understand you(상대방이 당신을 이해한다고 단정하지마세요)
Is the bus driver looking at you funny? Does the waitress look puzzled? Native English listeners sometimes pretend to understand too! Here are some phrases to use if you think your response, question, or statement was not understood:
(버스운전사가 당신을 이상하게봅니까? 웨이트리스가 이해못한 것처럼 보입니까? 원어민들도 가끔 이해못해도 이해하는 척합니다! 만약 당신이 답변, 질문 또는 말했을 때 상대방이 이해하지 못한 것 같을 때 밑에있는문장을사용하세요.)
- Did you catch that? 이해했습니까?
- Does that make sense? 말 됩니까?
- Let me try that again…다시 말하자면…
- Let me clarify…명확히 설명하자면…
- What I mean is…그게말이죠…
- That’s not what I meant.내 뜻은 그게 아니에요.
- Let me put it a different way.다른 식으로 말을하면요.
- Sorry, my pronunciation may not be correct.미안하지만, 나의 발음이 정확하지 않을수도 있습니다.
Tip: Don’t “nod” your head up and down and smile when you don’t understand. This will make others think you do understand. (Native speakers do this too.)

Bonus Expressions to remember
- It’s okay to put something back on the shelf if the price is too high. The clerk might put it away for you. Smile and say, “Sorry, that’s more than I thought it would be.”
- It’s polite to have small talk with the cashier. If the price is great, smile and say, “That’s a good deal!”
